AR Walk 5: Wendover village - 17 September 2014
We did this walk a while back now: sorry it's taken me so long to write it up!
AR24 Mandarin - Roger of Wendover the Early Years is the 24th and last cache of the Mandarin section of the Aylesbury Ring geocaches and takes you round Wendover through the eyes of Pirate Roger who "...was an English chronicler who live in the 13th century. Little is known about him, but it is thought he was born in Wendover and later in his life became a monk at St Albans Abbey... It is almost certainly a little known fact (and overlooked by Wikipedia) that for a few years in his early days in Wendover, Roger was known as Jolly Roger and was a now long-forgotten pirate in his luxury river boat cruiser on the Wendover arm of the canal." (Quoted from www.geocaching.com)
Whether Roger was really a pirate or not, this was a lovely walk around one of my favourite villages! We collected all the information, but ran out of time to go to the final destination to collect the actual cache - that has to be left for another day!
